A Guide to Night School Scholarships and Grants

A scholarship is a form of financial aid for a student to enable them to pursue further education. It covers tuition, fees, room, board, educational supplies and so on. It is offered by governments and different institutions and is usually used for college, university, and even high school education. For high school education scholarships, apply for private schools. They are given as an incentive to propel the student forward in their area of interest.

Scholarships are given on different categories and have a set time limit. Scholarships are grouped into different categories. There are merit-based scholarships that are given to students with outstanding performance either academically or in sports. Career specific ones on the other hand are given to students in areas that are of high demand and have a shortage of staff. These include nurses and teachers especially if focused on working in marginalized areas. Scholarships awarded are on the basis of one’s needs. This applies to individuals who have shown great potential but are unable to meet their financial obligations as far as education is concerned. Lastly, a student specific basis of awards is employed. Such scholarships are given to minority students and other students that may qualify in terms of gender and even race.

Certain scholarships have conditions attached to them where the individual may be required to work in a hardship or remote area or for the organization that has given the scholarship instead of repaying the money in currency. Grants on the other hand are funds given by the government, a foundation, or a trust. They are given for educational activity to an institution, to an individual or business. There are also intergovernmental grants for large project whether educational or otherwise. An application may be required from the applicant to the body involved in grant processing. Most of the organizations that give grants require accountability from the receiver on how the money has been spent. Both scholarships and grants are available for night school. The applicant should be aware of the lifespan of the scholarship before applying and ensure it matches with the duration of study.
